Attempt to Assist Oral Surgery by Haptic Robot

Haptics is a name of technology to transmit the force and tactile sensation by communication channel. Audible and Visual sensations have been transmitted in artificial way. Transmittal of force from distant place has been a dream of human being. The first experiment was done in US more than 70 years ago. From 2002, a team was formed for establishment of haptic technology and a first successful experiment wasmade in 2003 and a basic patent was been held. The lecture will introduce a bone drilling experiment by haptic technology, and also it will show us how safety is improved.

 

The State-of-the-Art of Clinical Multimodality Imaging Applications in Head and Neck Area for Reconstruction Surgery

Diagnostic imaging is an area gathered for Advanced Science and Technology. Especially, the advances of CT/MRI are remarkable, such as 320-row area-detector CT, Dual-energy CT and 3-Tesla MR images. Head and neck cancer need to be evaluated accurately for tumor extension, because treatment can impact heavily on a patient’s quality of life and optimal therapeutic outcome. This presentation discusses the clinical application to the head and neck cancer using diagnostic imaging equipment state-of-the-art, and illustrates how new imaging tools can be applied for evaluation of head and neck cancer and reconstruction surgery.
